Sharing a FigJam board with students

Google Classroom extension
If your school does not have the Google Workspace for Education Tier, or the Teaching and Learning upgrade, you can still easily share files with students using the Google Classroom extension. This works similarly to the add-on; however, instead of adding FigJam files directly from Google Classroom, you are adding the files to Google Classroom from the FigJam files itself.
What can you do with the Google Classroom extension?
- Share a FigJam file to Google Classroom from your Figma account
- Set sharing permissions with ease
- Automatically make a copy of the FigJam file for each student
- Grade and provide feedback on student once they attach the link in Google Classroom
Important: Your students will need to reattach the duplicated FigJam file to their Google Classroom assignment and give you editing access.
Google Classroom Add-On

FigJam share link
If you don’t have Classroom or simply want to share a FigJam link anywhere, no problem, we’ve gotcha! Sharing a FigJam file is simple using the native share features. Just open your file, click on the Share button in the top right corner, and choose your sharing preferences. You can copy the link to the file and decide whether to allow others to view, comment, or edit. Once you've set the permissions, simply share the link with your students or colleagues, and they can access the file instantly.
View only
There are two types of permissions. The first is to allow others to view your file. With this permission, other can:
- Explore the entire board
- Add comments
- Interact with media
- Share emotes
- Request editing access
Editing access
The second type of permission is editing access, which gives others the ability to fully collaborate on your FigJam file. With this setting, they can:
- Add and rearrange sticky notes, shapes, and text
- Draw directly on the board
- Insert images, widgets, and media
- Move and resize existing elements
- Collaborate in real-time with the peers to build out ideas together
Granting editing access turns your FigJam file into a shared workspace where students and staff can contribute and interact freely!
Force duplicate a FigJam file
If you want each person to have their own copy of a FigJam file, simply modify the URL. Remove the file name at the end of the link and replace it with “/duplicate.” This will prompt others to make a copy of the file when they open the link. Just be sure you're using the full file URL for this to work.
Watch the force duplicate segment of this video to learn more about how to force duplicate a FigJam file.
