Design systems have come a long way in recent years, growing from simple style guides to become the foundation upon which any healthy product is built. At Figma, we believe in empowering design systems teams with the tools and knowledge to harness their full potential. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce Framework by Figma, a global design systems event happening April 16. New features and best practices

Design systems have become a critical foundation for product design and development, but their implementation and management can be complex

. At Framework, we’ll explore our approach to building tools and features that support present-day and future design systems challenges.

As Sho Kuwamoto, Vice President of Product at Figma, writes: “We believe it’s our job to help you make changes to designs quickly, whether you have structured your designs ahead of time or not. When you look at Figma, almost every feature that helps you structure your file has a free-spirited cousin feature for the times when you want to keep things loose.” That guiding philosophy—balancing structure and freeform design—is one of the ways we try to future-proof Figma.

We’ll share more about new capabilities to make design systems more powerful and easier to adopt, as well as features to connect your system closer to code. Our product sessions will dive deep into strategies for structuring and maintaining your system.

Uniting designers and engineers

One of the key goals of Framework is to bring together designers and engineers working on design systems. We’ll have sessions tailored to these roles and their intersections, covering topics from design principles to technical implementation—including a new feature designed to bring design and development closer together, showcasing the critical role this cross-functional collaboration plays in building successful design systems.

A global stage for design systems

While the sessions are virtual, the event is a celebration of our global design systems community. Framework will be coming to our community in Asia virtually on April 18, and in-person (and virtually) in Tokyo on April 23. Stay tuned for more about in-person meetups happening across London and other cities to connect with local design systems makers and builders. No matter where you are, however, our virtual stream ensures you’ll have the best seat in the house for the main stage announcements and sessions.
